About Us
Construction Education & Estimating Services, LLC was founded by Roy Huemer in 2023 based upon an opportunity seen to assist contractors in the training, education, and establishment of procedures for their companies and personnel. As a HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob Contract Trainer, Roy had the opportunity to meet with hundreds of Estimators, Project Managers, their immediate subordinates and supervisors, Area Managers, Division Managers and Owners. In those meetings a repetitive theme arose when discussing the estimating and project management tasks and responsibilities.
“If I only had the time, I’d ….” Was stated again and again. “I would establish standard operating procedures” or “I wish everyone would use standard abbreviations, vocabulary and conversion factors” was heard multiple times. “I wish I could teach the new takeoff person what drainage structures are all about” and “The new intern has great potential yet I can’t take the time out of my day to teach them what the plans really mean” was heard even more.
In our industry, rarely does any individual have just one job, one task, one responsibility and all the time necessary to perform the thing they do. While the Estimator is performing Takeoffs and soliciting subcontractors or vendors, the Chief Estimator is generating budgets for jobs won and assigning cost codes to work while ordering materials for a job that will sit stagnant if not ordered today. The Project Manager is busy chasing down subcontractor submittals and hanging shelves in the office on the weekends.
How familiar does that sound? That is why we are here. Our motto “We have that time you’ve been looking for” was born of these types of situations. You may not have the time. We do and, being knowledgable in your type of business, can be that resource to perform those tasks not critical to tomorrow’s operations, yet critical to the company functioning efficiently.
How many times must you answer the following questions:
How many tons does a cubic yard of road gravel weigh? How about broken concrete? Or the most variable of all, soil?
How many cubic yards fits into one of our trucks? Or should we use tons? What type of trucks do we use?
How many tons can we haul over the road? On site? On site but just over an intersection? What is the maximum length of pile that can be transported without a permit? How much does that permit cost? Is it worth the permit to minimize splicing in the field? And on and on and on…
